Method Statement

  1. Site Arrival
    1. Our pest control technician/representative will report to reception or to an authorised manager or their representative. Our representatives will also report to heads of departments, which are to be visited.
    2. Our representatives will inform the relevant Managers of the site areas, which we intend to visit, in order that we may be contacted in an emergency situation.
    3. Our representatives will take note and comply with safety signs, safety instructions and rules for contractors working on site and those to maintain and protect relevant hygiene and food safety.
  2. Pest Control Treatments and Inspections
    1. Our representatives will complete the relevant risk assessments and decide as to which pesticide/preparation is most suitable to treat the specified pests. The relevant preparation will then be applied accordingly.
    2. Our representatives will inspect the contracted premises and their surroundings looking for relevant pests and signs of their activity.
    3. Government has approved all Pesticides used by our company, for safety, effectiveness and humaneness in use.
    4. All pesticides listed on our schedule have been assessed for safety and suitability in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH).
    5. All of our representatives are provided with:
      1. Operators field manual
      2. Safe Working Practices manual
      3. Procedure manuals
        These manuals go into great detail with regards to pest identification together with the biology and behaviour patterns. Relevant techniques and treatment are recommended in these manuals.
    6. All pesticides must be used in accordance with their specific label instructions.
    7. All pesticides are to be used without risk to health, safety and welfare of our staff, our client and their staff, other people and without risk to farm and other domestic animals.
    8. All of our representatives are provided with full personal protective clothing and necessary equipment, which has been assessed under COSHH, and the personal protective equipment at work regulations. The equipment used to apply pesticides has also been similarly assessed.
    9. In certain situations it may be necessary to exclude all personal from treatment areas by means of hazard warning notices and bunting tape. The relevant dates and times will be indicated on the warning posters.
    10. Where appropriate, inspections and treatments will be made after assessing any pertinent weather or other environmental factors.
  3. Follow Up Treatments and Inspections
    1. Follow up treatments and inspections will be made:
      1. To ensure the eradication of pest infestation.
      2. To control a continuing infestation.
      3. As part of a regular pest prevention and control service.
        Stages (1a through to 1c) and (2a through to 2j) will be followed.
    2. Our representatives will report on seasonally appearing pests, which may not be covered by the agreed contract.
  4. Pest Control Reporting
    A detailed hand written report will be completed on every visit made by our technician. These reports are to be completed and filed in the pest control folder, which is held with an authorised manager. Reports are to be completed in accordance with the specification of the pest control service provided.
  5. Waste Disposal
    The waste from pest control treatments such as rodent droppings, carcasses, baits and bait containers etc, will be removed from site by our representative and disposed of in accordance with the Special Waste Environmental Protection and any other governing regulations.
  6. Site Departure
    Our pest control technician/representative will report to reception or to an authorised manager or their representative. Our representatives will also report to heads of departments, which were visited.
  7. Emergency Procedures
    These include:
    The availability of Material Safety Data Sheets for all pesticides used on site.
    Fen Farm will provide relevant emergency contact numbers.
  8. Training
    Specialist courses have to be undertaken to provide these services and all operators are LANTRA certified, ensuring compliance with crop and poultry assurance schemes, also any public safety regulations.
    All courses include both practical assessments and written examinations. The areas of study are:
    1. Control of the species
    2. Biology of the species, identification and selecting the appropriate control methods
    3. The use of Rodenticides (vertebrate pest control products)
    4. Health and safety legislation and Environmental protection legislation.
    5. Practical demonstration and practice of controlling techniques.
    6. Storage, record keeping and disposal
    Operatives are continually updated on new product information and legislation.
